Mermaid Vyana recently rescued a snorkeler (Linda from Seattle) at Ho’okena beach where she was having an asthma attack and her lungs filled with water. In her rainbow mermaid tail, she floated Linda on her back, calming her, and towed her into shore for about 15 minutes so Linda didn’t have to swim. Linda’s husband yelled for help when they got close enough, and a local man came out to greet them with a boogie board.
Once Linda was supported by the boogie board, Mermaid Vyana swam as fast as she could to shore to find Linda’s inhaler and bring it to her. After about 20 minutes, Linda was breathing better, and Mermaid Vyana drove her to the hospital 20 minutes away. She stayed there in ICU for 2 days to recover. She’s very grateful for how all the locals came together to help her.
Mermaid Vyana owns Mermaid Dreams Bed & Breakfast in Kealakekua, Hawai’i. She trained as a lifeguard when she was 16 and has rescued about 5 people in the last year while swimming in her tail. Mahalo!
